I expect him to “unfriend” me any minute now. 🙂

This explains it all. Why does the institutional church put up with abuse? Because it’s the only place one can get salvation and keep it. Been sayin’ this for months. To the discernment bloggers I say: “Come out from among them and let the dead bury their own dead.”

Well he obviously doesn’t know what Luther and Calvin really taught. 😉

Interesting. He starts by saying you aren’t following Jesus because you aren’t dealing in grace & love since you are “calling out” religious control freaks. Then next he says he is being like Jesus because he is being gracious & loving by “shooting straight” with you. Hmmm….
To determine how far gone in cult of authority someone is, I listen & find out what extent their words are no longer logical. If they don’t hear themselves AND they don’t care, then they’re stubbornly gone. Btw, It is good to hold our own thoughts up to scrutiny as well.
His words aren’t relational or discussion-based. If they were, they would appeal to logic. They are authority-based. He has a low opinion of logic & rational thinking. Without logic, interpretation of scripture goes cult of personality (Calvin/Driscoll/etc). It is very difficult to talk with someone like that. I try by talking about kids. How do we expect our kids to behave if they can’t? I say they can & we appeal to their logic that bad hurts ourselves & others. Of course he knows & operates as if humans have ability. He would never drive a car or go near a road if he didn’t think humans are capable of making good choices.
He says, “We do not have the righteousness in and of ourselves even after we are caused by God to put our faith in Christ. We depend on Christ’s righteousness alone…”
Some questions for him may be: “What about Mark Driscoll? Did God powerfully use him & then ditch him in the dust? If so, God makes gold-diggers look like saints. What if I was in MD’s defunct “local body of authority” (as Jason calls it)? Certainly doesn’t sound like a fool-proof plan. What do you think, Jason? Christianity is found in MD & obeying his elders? Keep in mind, this is not hypothetical, Many families did exactly this, Jason. Does Christ’s righteousness alone require pastor & elders?”
It seems most Calvinists are all for religious control/authority to the max – until they’re on the other end. I pray he would see the damage on the other end & then give himself the permission to start thinking.
