I notice here new Calvinism was kick started by an Adventist.
I have recently been watching excellent YouTube videos on biblical archaeology. I stumbled upon one Ron Wyatt, an adventist and it turns out con man and fraud. Comes across as very plausible though. Incredible level of gullibility in accepting him as authentic.
I pointed this out in the comments and got into conversation with an adventist who wanted to put me back under the Law, sabbath observance in particular (no surprise there!). I am very resistant to being put back under law whether sabbath or tithing to the local church.
I am aware that SDA retains much of a ‘classic’ evangelical soteriology. Nevertheless the mentality of my YT acquaintance was that of someone in a cult. Something you experience if talking to JW’s or Christadelphians.
I have gone back to considering SDA as more a cult. This doesn’t bode well for its influence on evangelicals who have embraced new Calvinism. Two sets of cult like thinking both seeking in whole or in part to put us back under the Law. Two groups who have given too much place to the writings of individuals (Calvin or White) as supplements to the bible.

Hi Ken.
I outline the history of New Calvinism in “The Truth About New Calvinism,” and how the movement was founded by an Adventist and 2 Angelicans. Later, a Reformed Baptist joined the Australian Forum. Only thing is, they were right, Reformed Evangelicans and run of the mill Evangelicals had NO idea what authentic Protestantism is. And yes, the original article is totally an under law gospel, viz, justification by works of the law times 10. Protestantism is the very soteriology that the apostle Paul spent his entire ministry refuting. It is the fulfillment of the law through participatiing in the traditions of men.
As a kid, I asked my mother if we were Protestants. She asked me what we were protesting? Lolol.
It’s interesting that Al Mohler was made president of sbts at a very good time for him. It was starting to go off of the rails into left wing theological politics. And I mean there were professors denying the Virgin birth, promoting liberation theology, etc.
So what I’m finding amusing now are how many of his little former proteges are now projecting themselves into the left wing politics or became atheists. His neo Calvinism, as a way to take over churches is dead. But boy does the remnant remain. Much of the brainwashing actually took root. One of the biggest problems with indoctrination is they never learn how to think for themselves. They need a book. Written by some theologian with an agenda.

And we can add this: Christianity was hijacked by the church in the 4th century, officially turning it into an institution rather than a family. Institutions depend on culture for survival; this is unavoidable. If the institution doesn’t offer something that culture needs or wants, the institution cannot survive financially, and finances are a critical organ of the institution body. A family that is homeless and even starving is still a family, and can yet fulfill every biblical mandate. Institutions must capitulate to culture; there are no exceptions.
