Paul's Passing Thoughts 
Paul – I would be really interested in your opinion on the MacArthur video clip that has gone viral where he laid into the very idea of mental illness.
His attitude was imo appalling, but I couldn’t help but have some sympathy with his criticism of a younger generation dominated by feelings and easily swayed into believing their ills are a mental health issue rather than growing up an unchristian society where sin is the problem and you reap what you sow. Or has J Adams simplified this too much?!

Jay has a lot to do with MacArthur’s position. Jay did oversimplify, but his contribution to counseling is the much bigger picture. However, please remember that the Neo-Calvinist crowd despised Adams. MacArthur, like the rest of them, are library dwellers and are out of touch with the real world. Yes, these drugs are over-prescribed, and by the way, in nursing, prescribing Adderall for adolescent behaviors is not considered best practice. However, thank God for these meds. Remember, in many states the mental health facilities were shut down about 20 years ago, and all of those people were dumped into long-term care health facilities. Today, these facilities are manageable without straight jackets, cages, and bed restraints because of drugs like Ativan, and God forbid Haldol if it is called for. With that said, using these drugs as a primary intervention is NOT considered best practice. When younger people are hit with onset dementia and some forms of Parkinson’s disease, a lot of these drugs make very bad scenarios manageable. Regarding MacArthur, he doesn’t even know what the gospel is to begin with, is not a nurse, and needs to stay in his own lane. Of course, as one of the most confused and un-self-aware people on the face of the earth, that’s not going to happen.
