(I meant to post this comment on THIS article) 😉 What a wonderful resource! It’s great to see all your posts on this subject in one place. I’m sending it out to my regular list of family & friends. My husband and another brother in Christ did an extensive deep-dive into the subject of biblical forgiveness vs preemptive/carte blanche forgiveness after we left our former ‘church’, as the ‘leaders’ there had insisted that our dear friends’ two teens FORGIVE the grandfather & uncles who had sexually abused them from age 18mos to 8 yrs old… and it was destroying their faith in the goodness &justice of God.

I have been reading through this excellent series on forgiveness. The church has turned forgiveness into an f word.

Jordan Peterson has an excellent talk on serious betrayal and what it does to a person. How we have to stop and question what we believed about ourselves in the past, our current state and how this betrayal may change us for the future. IOW, everything has changed. It’s basically how we must change as a person based on that betrayal. When I was listening to his talk, I kept thinking about the betrayal that happens in the church with instant forgiveness when it comes to true victims of serious wrongdoing. Many times family members are even involved.

People need to know that one of the most loving things they can do is to walk away from it. Never seek revenge but don’t stick around to be the doormat. For one thing those people do not represent Jesus Christ. Easy to say, hard to do.
