What about the commandment to honor father and mother which Paul calls the “first commandment with promise.” Surely the law is not against all promises since it is where this promise is found.

The difference is WHY you follow the law. One law, two different motives. To prevent condemnation, or strictly to love with no fear of condemnation. two different mindsets. The whole book of Psalms is about love for the law. two different mindsets: under law or under grace. Most people view the law through the lens of condemnation: you can tell by the questions they ask.
