From the perspective of traditional Christianity pre-the Baptiat denomination throwing out the baptismal water with the baby, baptism was considered to be the point at which sins were remitted as both Acts2:38 and the end of the Nicene Creed state, and therefore anyone who was baptized as a believer would have assurance that their pre-Christian sins were all gone.
