The war on old people is how I got so involved in the last church where I was a member. The pastor, a recent Southern MDiv grad, had a special young adult night class wherein he mentioned that eventually the old people would die off and he could pretty much do what he wanted. He acted like the old folks were against him.

I decided to go to the older ladies Friday morning circle to check things out for myself. The snacks were great! Their leader was a 98 year old lady who had been the high school English teacher of several of the ladies who were then in their seventies. I thought it was pretty interesting to have lessons taught by someone with so much perspective. Also, the snacks were to die for!

So I reported back that I had gone to their meeting and it was just great. From that point on, this dude wouldn’t even look in my direction at church, much less shake my hand. He probably didn’t care for my open mockery of the Purpose Driven Life in our study time.

So when he realized that his dreams of a young people takeover/old folk die off wasn’t going to happen, he basically cussed us out from the pulpit . He had it out for one older gentleman in particular in his rant, who got up and tried to walk out the back, but was blocked by our youth group. That was when this Southern MDiv ran out the side door and moved to Florida with his 19 year old wife he had married out of the youth group he had pastored previously. (He was about 7-8 years older than her.)

This ugly attitude toward the elderly is so unbiblical, it goes without saying. But, if you are trying to apply worldly management practices into growing your corporation, then yes, I guess you have ditch the whole love one another thing and bring in the programming, staff, and organization that the world has. Bondage indeed.

Where and when do testimonies like this ever end? Unfortunately for me, the more I see church for what it is, I find myself having utter disdain for the institution and everything about it.
