Paul's Passing Thoughts

9 Marks

Posted in Uncategorized by Paul M. Dohse Sr. on June 10, 2016

Food for thought…

I will be writing a post on this video in the near future. According to John Calvin’s doctrine of the church, Dever effectively removed these people from salvation. Calvinism attributes this kind of authority to Reformed pastors, and this is the kind of authority that Mark Dever et al think they have.

In the post, I will be citing Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion and the writings of Martin Luther.

I find it ironic that this video was produced by a southern baptist apologist organization, to warn SB churches of the “dangers” of Calvinism as propagated by 9 Marks, especially since the Baptist confession finds its own roots in Calvinism. So what their beef really is all about is that it’s not THEIR brand of Calvinism.

That’s why our goal is to expose what Calvinism really is. What I will focus on in the post is what Dever actually thinks he brings about in church discipline as taught by Calvin. In Dever’s mind, he is flexing his God-given authority to remove these people from the ability to obtain forgiveness for “present sin.” In other words, he is removing them from the progressive justification process that can only be obtained in church membership.

Along with this video this week, and from another source, I received shocking citations in regard to Wade Burleson of Deb and Dee’s Wartburg Watch. The point of that post will be…anything goes in the institutional church because of authority. Wade Burleson holds to JW teachings on Christ and claims God is of the female gender. And the guy backs it up with hard data.
