The Protestant Denial of the New Birth
Reformation orthodoxy denied a literal new birth in accordance with Martin Luther’s “Alien Righteousness.” A common theme throughout the Bible is miraculous birth and the Holy Spirit’s role in salvation. From the beginning of Bible history, God emphasizes a birth made possible only by Him. “The Promise” of new birth is for those who believe and want to be a part of God’s literal family forever.
The Reformers clearly rejected the new birth as a foundation for their orthodoxy which has resulted in confusion amidst Protestants of all stripes. Even those who profess a literal new birth function as if there isn’t one. Martin Luther’s Simul Justus et Peccator is indicative of the Protestant gospel of paradox. The “believer’s” righteousness is only a position, NOT a reality.

“Will I be judged in order to get into heaven by my righteousness or by the righteousness of Christ?” ~ RC Sproul
Um, this question is invalid because it begins with a false premise; well actually more than one, but the most relevant is the assumption that BELIEVERS will be judged in order to get into heaven. On the contrary, believers will NOT be judged at all in order to get into heaven. Believers already ARE righteous because they are born again, making them the literal offspring of God, which gives them the SAME righteousness of the Father!
