My wife and I are tired of the institutional church. We have been struggling with it for years but it’s reached its peak now. We are opting out but don’t know what to do next. I am rejoicing in this because it’s forcing me to trust in the Lord to guide us (Hebrews 11:1). That said, what would you recommend for us now? I know of no house churches in our area but am willing to start one. Yet I also don’t know any other disciples who feel like we do. Some disciples despise the institutional church but remain in them for various reasons.

I want to do the will of the Lord. Any suggestions would help.

      Seeking,

Do you have children living at home? If so, what are their ages? What state do you live in? Also, Pearl will be posting the audio from a call-in we had on the radio program Friday night. I think that will encourage you. The fact of the matter is, an institution and the 1st century assembly model are mutually exclusive. Body life and the caste of an institution cannot coexist–it just doesn’t work. That’s where we get “church-hoppers.” The poor souls assume someone has gotten it right, but they search in vain. They are not the problem, the system is the problem. The idea that salvation is in the institution is a Protestant staple–Calvin stated it outright. You have several options open to you that will please the Lord.
