You want to talk about traditions, the observance of “Advent” has made huge inroads among Evangelicals. It’s a big thing with these reformed guys!

Because it imparts grace. Anything that “shows forth the grace of God” is game.

Please wrap my head in duct tape now!

…and that includes condemned and not condemned–savor of life unto life and death unto death–both glorify the Lord according to them. We exist for the sole purpose of God’s self glory and self love. Google “God’s self love” and see what you come up with.

“Christmas is not finally about his birth for our salvation, but our existence for his glory. John Piper.””

We attended a “liberal” Baptist church for Christmas Eve and one of the things mentioned is that we have gone past the ability to just celebrate the birth of or King. So many have to make it about other things.

The truth is that in Piper’;s theology, the birth of our King is a moot point. It was not necessary because those chosen randomly by an arbitrary god for salvation— was done before Adam even sinned. Jesus’ birth made no real difference in Calvin’s construct.
