Carmen, This is a constant theme in Protestantism…..forget Justice. It is sinful to want justice for yourself or others unless they are the Philosopher kings. Then you should pray.

You see, there will be justice for you when you die. And if you suffer enough here at the hand of other “Christians” there will no justice for that because God expects you to sin all the time against others. You cannot help it.

Hey, Lydia…..I’m not afraid of them anymore. I’m a blood-bought child of the one true God. “God expects you to sin all the time against others. You cannot help it.”

Phooey on all of that. I actually can read the Bible myself. ( Thank you, Andy Young for the confidence your Bible studies have given me.) I am a blood-bought child of the one true God. I am a co-laborer with the Holy Spirit in sanctification. I CAN please God with a life of obedience.

Tullian, I wish you knew I’m onto you and your buddies. You can’t set the captives free and liberate them through your preaching.

Bottom line: I’m not afraid of them anymore.

The material/evil–spiritual/good–shadows/true forms construct. Notice that justice in real time is “right,” but NOT “truly righteous.” EVERYTHING they say is either critical of, or devalues the “glory story,” or emphasizes the “cross story.” I assume many more examples can be found in the article. This is Gnostic-speak.

…our justice is a mere shadow of the true justice. To emphasize our justice is to take away emphasis on the best justice. It can’t be both–that violates the Gnostic prism.

“So, basically, it would be wise to become well-versed in philosophy, particularly that which drove Plato, just to keep up with these guys.”

    Absolutely.

These people are experts in philosophy. I am beginning to understand Chapter One: Dissonant Dramas: Paradigms For Knowing God And The World ( Michael Horton’s Systematic Theology).

The Reformers lie about what Gnosticism really is, and it’s difficult making heads or tails of this reading Horton. One thing for sure….Gnosticism COULDN’T have effected the first century church because according to Horton (page 37)

“Although the confusion of the Creator with creation characterizes paganism generally, it formed the horizon for Greek philosophy. In the SECOND CENTURY, a movement arose within esoteric Jewish and Christian groups that tried to reinterpret the biblical narrative in a basically Greek philosophical framework. Known as Gnosticism, this heresy was decisively challenged by Irenaeus ( AD 115-202), bishop of Lyons”.

Horton provided a footnote to this with…”The study of Gnosticism has become a cottage industry today, especially with many scholars advocating a recovery of Gnostic emphasis. The vast secondary literature has high-lighted the diverse schools of this movement, although Irenaeus ( Against Heresies) has stood the test of time as an account ( and Christian refutation) of the various types”.

Yes, they critique what they are so they can say they aren’t that, but they are.

      Carmen,

Jump to III on page 47 ff. He seems to be admitting outright that Christianity depends on Platonic metaphysics.

I was unaware of this chapter in my copy–this will play big in TTANC volume 3.

When you know what to look for it is mind blowing. And Paul is right:

“they critique what they are so they can say they aren’t that, but they are.”

Start watching for this on many issues whether behavior or theology. It is uncanny. You can set your clock by them. During the entire CJ scandal, the TGC boys and others like Mohler all of a sudden took a great interest in teaching us about abuse and how to handle it in our churches. That is ONE example.
