Andy, The general understanding of what you are describing is what I understood growing up. I can look back and see how much has changed just within the SBC in this understanding of sanctification. It was more modeled in my experience as a kid than actually getting into the technical aspects. But in general it was the Cross/Resurrection happened so justification is there for believers. It is what we become after that–that reveals us to the world.

I think within the SBC the twin ideas that were drilled into our heads made this understandable: Soul Competency and Priesthood of believer. Those two are pretty much gone now. But I now see why they were so important. The first being understood as– we are accountable to God for what do and the second that we are all equal in the Body.

Another problem for us is that the Jewishness aspectof Christianity has all but been lost. And there is so much there that helps us understand the NT.

I was thankful you made clear the law was to sanctify. I often point out to folks the law was given after the Isrealites had lived with pagans for centuries under pagan laws. Once we really understand the pagan backdrop in the OT we can see why “cleansing” was the focus.

Did you somehow get a hold of my notes for Session 3? LOL

    Thank you for those comments!
