No they don’t because they misrepresent the truth. And even if they didn’t, they don’t “have” any authority, it ALL belongs to Christ. And even if they did “have” the authority of Christ, they don’t “have” it ANY MORE than any born again believer.
Can you identify any one of these who have claimed they have more authority than any other believer? It would help if you provided direct quotations. Additionally, since Christ only speaks to believers through the Scriptures, are you not suggesting there is no authoritative basis for the Christian faith since sincere believers disagree about what Jesus taught. No one should listen to you since you have no more authority than they have.

Anon,
You’re kidding right? For “one,” Driscoll doesn’t claim to have more authority than the average Christian? For two, Mohler didn’t say that preordained pastors are appointed by God to save people from ignorance? And look closely at what you are saying: Since Christians disagree on interpretation, someone should have the final say. WOE! And scarier yet is the fact that most pastors in the institutional church in fact believe that.
When was the authority of Christ ripped from him (and by whom) and assigned to scripture. Protestant leaders claim that authority is in scripture all the time. I assume this thinking/teaching came about during the Reformation, as a way to control the masses.
Anonymous, A few questions. Authority in what capacity? Don’t you mean scripture is available to them… just as it is available to you? Are super powers needed to read & understand?
If a teacher’s function is not to save people from ignorance, what is his function? I am trying to raise a legitimate question here. Even though all true believers have the same Spirit and all have the same Bible, it is crazy to think every person’s autonomous views are authoritative. You don’t all agree with each other. Which one of you is authoritative ? The only “super power” a believer has is the Spirit’s illumination. Still, the Spirit’s illumination does not guarantee infallibility to any individual’s interpretation.
Christ’s authority has not been “ripped from him,” but where else does he express his authoritative rule over his church other than in the Scriptures? In 1 John 4:6, John wrote, “We [I understand him to refer to Apostolic biblical writers] are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.”
You clearly view yourself as an authority since you are quick to label anyone who disagrees with you a heretic. You have changed your views in the past year or so. Were your views authoritative and infallible before or now?

You are now on a short leash because you are manipulative and that is a waste of my time. I am a teacher, and people should accept what I teach according to their own conscience. All will answer to Christ in their own stead. I say, according to my understanding of the gospel, that all who teach that a maintaining of the law for justification; ie the Reformers, ie Calvin, in fact teach a false gospel. Those who read my blog should search the Scriptures for themselves to ascertain the truth thereof.

Paul, this is awesome. Can I use it to make a t-shirt?
