Paul's Passing Thoughts

Pathetic

Potters House logoFollowing is a video of a sermon preached by New Calvinist James MacDonald to his congregation. I don’t understand this attitude at all. I feel so fortunate that here at the Potter’s House we have our own little routine. During the week, I study for our Romans series, eagerly anticipating what God will teach us. My applications are from other books and letters of the Bible. We are presently in chapter ten, and have arrived there by studying Romans to that point verse by verse. If I have quoted a man or another pastor to this point, I don’t remember when. I type out my whole lesson word for word, and everybody gets a copy. Its not about me, I just attempt to teach the text as closely to the truth as possible.  I don’t want it to be about me, unity comes from agreement regarding the one mind of Christ. I also try to teach hermeneutic  principles that can help people in their own private Bible study. As our congregation grows, I hope to learn from those who attend from their own personal study. More than one head is always better. Frankly, I cringed as I watched this video. It’s embarrassing. I am also very uncomfortable with his spiritual caste mentally concerning the elder/parishioner relationship. Just seek the truth of God’s word, make it about that, and the need for “catapults” should be far and few in- between. If at all.

Okay, what is hyperbole but…er, more so? Because whatever that is, it is the word for this guy.

What and arrogant, presumptuous prick. I just spent sixty hours a week doing a job he wouldn’t have the first damn clue about working with people who I can’t spiritually tyrannize to get to work for me and all my own issues and I have to go to church and hear this pissing and moaning about how hard HIS job is, while at the same time demanding that NO ONE actually expect him to do a good effing job because the very people who pay his ass with their charitable giving to the tune of 10 percent and more can’t even understand what a good job looks like!?

I honestly don’t think I have heard a larger pile of crap in my life.

Sorry for the vulgarity of my previous comment; but, really…how is this video not egregious?

Jimmy, your job is standing and talking. Get over yourself.

Shockingly, people will listen to that and continue to follow this guy. Though subjective, in my mind, aside from what he plainly says, his demeanor reeks of a shady life. Sorry, but I grew up during the sixties and that whole thing just comes flooding back into my mind when I encounter this guy. My mind just starts screaming, “SIXTIES BURN-OUT!”

Wow! The only words I have for that are following this guy and what he teaches is a perfect way to create a cult. What a way to close with John 6. (Not that he bothered to open with any scriptural insight.)

Welp, You guys have hardly scratched the surface. Here is more fuel for the fire. Lord help us that this man can be a pastor much less an elder. How can people drink this kool-aid?? Well, I guess we know the reason why… he has his congregation 60 mil in debt and all he has to do is threaten to dry up the well…

This is so obnoxiously absurd, doctrinally inconsistent and pathetically whiney I don’t know where to begin.
Do you by chance have a transcript of this?

      John,

I will check, but honestly, it sounds like the Pastors Conferences I used to go to.

he’s spent the last two decades helping other people with their problems, and when he dares to share what he struggles with you guy feel it’s appropriate to lambaste him for it? you guys are jerks.

      Anon,

Mr. MacDonald has been well paid for his “suffering.” As a former pastor of a sizable church and presently leading a small upstart home fellowship, I find his mindset appalling. Furthermore, Harvest Bible Chapel now fits the classic definition of a cult to a “T.”
