No thanks. Remember how they are about church shopping AND I have no doubt they watch the blogs and will be looking for anyone they think is checking them out from a non friendly perspective. I know too many folks at CAL. People are so wrapped up in their hero’s they cannot handle any negative truths. And unless there are a lot of new faces there, it could be a problem. These people are vipers about their success. I know.

What will be most interesting is how the local mega seeker down the street responds to this. They are losing folks by the droves and rightly so. And they have very close ties to CAL as many of the members kids go there. But, They have been spending money like drunken sailors for years and it is catching up to them. Their junior 30 something pastor just sold his home for 700,000 and is buying 85 acres in an expensive area to build. Confident, isn’t he? He is so out of touch he does not realize how many members in this bad economy are starting to rethink throwing more money at that place.

    Thanks Paul and Lydia.

Lydia, I just picked up a copy of “Roger Williams and the Creation of the American Soul” from the library. I’m about a quarter of the way in and he hasn’t talked much about Williams yet, but I’m hooked! I’m sure his history is going to be interesting, and possibly eye opening!

great joey! The books dives into the historical setting so we can understand Rogers better, so there will be lots of historical background throughout the book.

BTW: I had a Calvinista on another blog tell me that democracy was born in Calvin’s Geneva. I kid you not! And this is not the first time I have heard this from some YRR. I am simply amazed at the amount of ignorance coming out of our seminaries. They are being indoctrinated. Not educated.

Reading Williams we see where in America he was really the first to put his money where his mouth was in promoting not only “Soul Libertie” but also seperation of church/state.

I am going to get ahold of Roger Williams’ “The Bloudy Tenant” which was his last big work he wrote while visiting in England to secure the Providence charter the Puritans were trying to take away….and had it published right before he left . The printer eventually had to flee.

For anyone interested. Here is “The Bloudy Tenant” by Roger Williams (it was published anonymously, obviously in England) FREE on google books. It is written in Old English and typset with the s’ looking like f’s.

It is no wonder this work was burned and anyone caught reading in the Bay Colony banished or punished. Williams makes the case from scritpure so plainly that punishment for differences in faith is wrong.
