Paul's Passing Thoughts

How Mark Driscoll Strips Husbands of Their Self-Confidence for Control Purposes

Posted in Uncategorized by Paul M. Dohse Sr. on August 27, 2012

Much of today’s preaching and teaching is geared towards controlling people. In the following clip, though Driscoll seems to be calling out bad husbands, he subtly prefaces what he is saying with characteristics that are true of most husbands.  Any loving husband that prays with his wife is never going to be satisfied with how often he does so. Driscoll doesn’t make any distinctions in the elements.

Also, wives/girlfriends get a pass as “the daughters of God.” If she is spiritually weak, guess whose fault that is? As far as husbands who are being cautious about joining Driscoll’s church, he calls them out also, and depicts them as “little boys.” He subtly suggests that they don’t want to be “under authority.” However, let me be clear: a husband is under Christ’s authority, not the authority of elders in any regard when it comes to the home. Paul makes that absolutely clear in Ephesians 5. The clear message in Reformed churches today is that elders have more authority in the home than the husband. I contend that any man who walks into a New Calvinist church in our day is putting his marriage in grave danger. And by the way, we have no evidence or reason to believe that Adam abused Eve.

Yeah I was with him until he started saying that they’re not “men” until they get under authority, join a home group etc…. The “reformed” bells started going off. I wanted to gag when he said their wives were “suffering!
He’s combining 2 different issues. He’s right men can lollygag and be controlling, eps with the sex outside of marriage, too many christian guys are doing that these days and no one is calling them out on it. BUT then he says they’re doing that stuff all cuz they’re not submitting themselves to a home group or a church membership and cuz of THAT they’re wives/significant others are “suffering”……..please!

      Heather,
Ya, when he started in with the being under authority stuff–I could feel the cold chills run up my back. And if your a husband that could be praying with his wife more, and hasn’t joined his church, and thereby offended–that’s the Holy Spirit;ie, you’re no better than an abuser. This is brainwashing/manipulation to gain control, and frankly, as Susan and I visit around, we are seeing it Sunday after Sunday.

Driscoll’s defense of wives and girlfriends rings rather hollow since he uses his wife’s past sins to sell his sex book and checks her email before she can look at it. He likes to see women as weak and helpless – maybe that makes him feel stronger. And that modified Ed Grimley hair doesn’t exactly add to his macho credentials.

Driscoll has displayed the traits of a narcissist for many years that were ignored before he imploded with porno visions, firing elders to have more control, sodomy in marriage, etc, etc. Many have promoted him as in Piper, Mohler, etc, and one of his mentors was none other than shepherding cult leader Mahaney. Mahaney believes in spiritual covering of elders to the sheeple. Don’t even get me started on their small groups where much spiritual abuse has occurred with “discipline” AFTER someone confesses a sin. Driscoll is a charlatan and many young men try to be like him. The SBC has funded Acts 29 churches with Driscoll DNA all over them. I had one woman who attended an Acts 29 boot camp sermon by Driscoll on marriage say he taught them in front of their husbands that if she was not in the mood she should offer up her backside to her husband. Why these young skulls of mush did not walk out I will never know. So beware when you go to any church…..a Driscoll clone pastor might be there. And stop giving money to SBC CP which funds NAMB that funds these sorts of church plants!

“Deep Throat” Driscoll is a little boy with a Mickey Mouse muscle shirt and Kewpie-doll haircut strutting around the schoolyard going “I CAN BEAT YOU UP!!!!! I CAN BEAT YOU UP!!!!! I CAN BEAT YOU UP!!!!!”
