So profound- the parallel worldly existence of NC is breathtaking. I can’t make up my mind with which world to take up residence. Like or dislike- which one?

I detect a bit of sarcasm in that comment.

Do you think? That depraved side of me tends to surface up once in awhile.

Paul – thought you’d might be interested in this article on an interview with Piper.
The title: “I think I am a Pietist Calvinist”
    http://www.pietestschoolman.com

So we see that Piper keeps reinventing himself.

He does make one important point that we should consider: that reformed theology and pietism
is like comparing bananas and cars.

Considering the “hell” part of the answer: If what God creates is always good, and He created hell, isn’t hell in some sense, a “larger sense,” good? Yet God doesn’t delight in sending people there. Isn’t Piper being faithful to the Biblical text, even if the answer is paradoxical?

      Jeff,

I’m not sure the Scriptures say that everything God creates is “good.” Is man totally depraved? Many say “yes” without even thinking about it. Well then, who knits us together in the womb? You can’t have it both ways. I think God creates “necessary” things that Aren’t His preference, but work together for His ultimate good.

Well, God originally created a sinless (good) man and woman. The fall, which He ordained, necessitated sinful humans, and also hell (although that may have already been created for fallen angels). I think that your final sentence is pretty much what Piper is saying in that video.

      JB,

Piper believes that God works out of His infinite happiness. This causes many problems for him in maintaining a unified theology. He’s obviously putting together his answer while stalling by drinking water.Unbelievers have a phrase for it that I can’t repeat here.
