Randy, Are you saying you cannot choose to sin? That is what it sounds like to me. I totally the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin and continues to do so during sanctification. But I can choose to ignore that convicting and not act on it.

Lydia,
No, of course I am not saying that. Whatever would have given you that idea? What we cannot and will not do severed from Christ is choose to obey Christ.

there always seems to be a new movement in christianity where basic biblical doctrines are tweaked. the new calvinism doesnt surprise me. it seems on the surface to be consistent, that is, its salvation and its sanctification are both monergistic, meaning its all gods work, just as free will armenianism, both in salvation and subsequent sanctification, is both god and mans work. but tried and true reformation theology teaches that salvation is all of gods grace alone, while subsequent sanctification, or growth in grace, is synergistic, meaning its a cooperative work of god and man.

Whatever, your definition of “tried and true” Reformed soteriology is NOT what Calvin believed.
