We must keep asking why this focus is being taught. I have my theories based upon watching this train wreck for a long time. As I have said over and over, there is a huge lack of any teaching or even mentioning of the work of the Holy Spirit in a believers life with the NC (and the seekers, too). The Holy Spirit is what is promised to a believer. It is HUGE.
Why? Why is the Holy Spirit left out of their teaching?
Because of what they call the supremacy of Christ in all things for one. But according to the thesis in the book, it boils down to antinomian reductionism. The problem with the Holy Spirit, I repeat, the problem with the Holy Spirit is that He works TOGETHER WITH US and they don’t like that. “The fruit of the Spirit is SELF control.” Our self control, His fruit. Our effort and His effort is seamless. Observe what Christ wants us to do, and go do it knowing that we have a “Helper” as Christ calls Him. A “helper” doesn’t do it for you or we wouldn’t need “help.”
So, if we have the indwelling Holy Spirit working WITH us….we do not really need them so much. We might not feel compelled to buy their books, pay them to preach to us these things……and.they will not have so many followers.
The Holy Spirit was bad for business with the seekers, too. Teaching that one should grow in Holiness when saved does not build mega churches.
It was quite simple:Sanctfication was never mentioned at all. They simply dumbed down sin basically teaching you could never be accused of not acting like a Christian…..because anything goes. If you said the sinners prayer, then presto, you are saved.
This is the problem that first attracted me to the NC
But when I started studying the new Reformed movement, I saw a different tactic involved: Make it so complicated that you can never be sure. So, one is stuck at the cross. Not a “new creature in Christ” growing in Holiness and Sinning less and less with the indwelling Holy Spirit guiding you to do the right things.
That was a good article. These NC guys are like little children making excuses for not doing what they are told. Wait and see, after the “daily preaching of the gospel to yourself” waxes old, they will create some other diversion. It’s not hard to predict. As long that cash keeps coming in the joyful hallucinations will flow from it.
Bill, Yes, but whatever the concept is, it will contribute a theory to the basic reductionist goal of reducing our role in God’s work to the lowest common denominator.
Great piece. Awesome.

Both are a bait and switch game.

Lydia,
Bait and switch away from the perfect law of liberty–which will keep one in bondage–and I do think “controL” is a part of that.

Oh, yeah. It has to be in conformity with the Objective Centrality of the Reductionist Gospel. The sacred cow of New Calvinism.
