Eight Reasons Why Christians No Longer Need the Same Gospel That Saved Them
Originally published June 16, 2013
1. When we are saved, we are washed and do not need another washing: John 13:9-11.
2. When we drink of the gospel, we never thirst again: John 4:13,14.
3. When we eat of the bread of life, we never hunger again: John 6:35.
4. When we are saved, we receive all of the fullness of God: Ephesians 1:19, 20.
5. We are called to move forward from repentance of dead works and on to maturity: Hebrews 6:1, 2.
6. Reconciliation only occurs once: 2 Corinthians 5:18-21.
7. The gospel is a foundation that we build on—you don’t continue to build the foundation: 1Corinthians 3:10-15, Romans 15:20.
8. Peter said he wanted to spend his last days reminding believers to add certain things to their faith. If PTGTY (preaching the gospel to yourself) is the paramount vessel for sanctification, why would that not be his emphasis in the time he had left? 2Peter 1:5-17.

Paul,
I know this is an old post and I knew I had read it before. I went searching your site for it this morning because my pastors wife told all the ladies at an event yesterday that saved people needed the same gospel that saved them! Of course she didn’t come up with this from The Word, she read from some “bible” study lesson she is currently doing! I was already miserable because we were having to do a craft project for fun!
I’m female, but crafts are torture to me.
Why I’m still in an SBC church
My husband is extremely musical(also my children) he is on staff as the worship pastor. We tried to walk completely away from “church” ministry and just do another job and our life fell apart financially. It was a rough 2 years. So we went back to church ministry.
I come to your site for safety and encouragement. I NEVER fit in with the people I’m supposed to be in fellowship with. I feel like a trouble maker, always challenging everyone who is telling me something they’ve been reading by Piper, Platt or Tripp. I DO know way more about what these men believe because I’ve been studying and researching since 2010!!
I’m so thankful my eyes were opened to what I was reading and ingesting. The Spirit kept nudging me to stop reading all these pastors books and sermons. My children were very young and if I hadn’t stopped reading them, I would have raised and then discipled my children to be reformed, preaching the gospel to themselves daily, men worshipers!!
I’m tired now, I just want to stay home.
My whole family is at Sunday morning worship, and I’m at home feeling sucker punched, again!
I’ve already fought this battle at previous churches and this one had already went through it(and the reformed guys left), so I felt safe.
I hear the Whitesnake song in my head, “Here I Go Again”
I’m thankful for your articles, I’ve been reading all your thoughts and research for years.

Hi April. Thank you for the encouraging note. I will reread this post this morning and see if it needs some editing, and maybe repost it. Your experience would be expected from some one who loves the truth and has to put up with church culture, which is a lie. Email me your address at pmd@inbox.com and I will send you a free copy of “The Church Lie.” You can read about the book here: thechurchlie.net
