While Driscoll steps down from his pulpit for six weeks ( nice vacation) the discernment blogs can wring their hands wondering if anything will be accomplished. Maybe you can all join John Piper in flooding Mark with a tidal wave of hope-filled prayer for a new day and a new man in this season. Maybe Kevin DeYoung, Carl Trueman and Ray Ortland can proclaim Driscoll fit for ministry.
Or, maybe, you all can stop being so gullible and connect the dots.

The rest of the New Calvinist cartel is trying to get him to resign because he is flaunting in public what they do behind closed doors. Everyone calling for his resignation rules their networks with an iron fist. Like say MacArthur: walk softly but have an in-house police station that escorts people to their cars when they ask too many questions.

His article “Misplaced Thirst For Justice” is a classic screed for the total depravity of the believers and a pass for the elitist clergy. You, dear pewsitter, must look to YOUR sin, put away the “gossip”, “anger” and “bitterness”. Allow Driscoll ( and all clergy) to repent, be restored to the pulpit, because this will give glory to God. Justice? That’s your self-righteousness which must be checked at the door.
“This also must be a lesson to all of us and we all need to check our self-righteousness at the door. To be shocked at the sin of another is to diminish the possibilities of the sin within us. No one this side of Heaven can promise not to have committed similar sins or actions. We are all deeply sinful, diseased by sin, and being transformed from one degree of glory to another by God in Jesus Christ.”
The wife who is abused by her husband and goes to a pastor for help.
The pewsitter who is spiritually abuse in the church and tries to find help.
Forget justice. Suffer! By the way, don’t notice that the big dogs get a pass.

A test: What is behind this Reformed sentence structure that is used constantly? “Our thirst for justice is right, but God’s thirst for justice is truly righteous and it’s already been satisfied.”
The only thing I find amazing is that there is ONE person left who is attending his church and giving him money. There will always be Mark Driscolls, et. al. The question is why do so many fall for it for so long and think it pious to “rehab him”.
As my mom always said, common sense is not common. Seriously what on earth would change their minds about him? A public murder?

Lydia,
The Protestant yellow magic bus of salvation needs a paint job, has lots of dents, blood on the undercarriage, and nasty seats, but it’s the only bus going to heaven. It’s the same reason the Catholic Church thrives: its clearly salvation by institution.

So is that the verdict? A 6-week sabbatical?

Not a verdict because this is what Driscoll has chosen to do. Yes, a six week sabbatical. Are you impressed? It’s such a joke.

Lots of hope-filled prayer for Driscoll and none for the bodies under the bus. That’s John Piper for ya.
