Paul's Passing Thoughts

Are You a Christian, a Catholic, or a Protestant?

Technically, according to the gospel you believe, you are a Christian, a Catholic, or a Protestant. Other religions may have different names, but the primary issues are the same.  What’s the difference?

Catholics: Believe in infused righteousness, or a literal new birth. The believer is truly righteous, but must colabor with the church to make it to heaven. Justification is not finished.

Protestants: Reject infused grace—ALL righteousness remains outside of the believer. If the believer is righteous in any way, or possesses righteousness, he/she is a participant in justification. Again, justification is not finished; therefore, infused grace makes the “believer” a participant in the justification process. Original Protestantism would deem this works righteousness.

Christians: Literally born again into a new creature. The believer colabors with the Trinity and progresses in righteousness. Justification is a finished work and totally separate from the Christian life which is a progression of righteousness. Justification is finished, by faith alone, and accomplished by the Trinity alone. Sanctification is a progression in righteousness that pleases God.
