Let There be no doubt about it: the Reformers demanded that anyone naming the name of Christ must take a vow of knowing nothing but Christ and Him crucified. This meant a vow of celibacy in regard to knowledge, truth, goodness, and reason. This was Plato’s definition of the just artisan. For Luther and Calvin, those who fornicate with reason see the cross as “foolishness.”
