Its obvious what happened to it: unless sanctification is seen as necessary for justification, it gets ignored. That’s the problem with justification by faith alone: it gets rid of sanctification.
Sanctification is not required for justification. Justification is by faith alone. Sanctification is by walking in the Spirit, where the believer agrees to walk in the Spirit. “James Jordan” is one of those anti-Paul guys that teaches a false gospel of works.
Concerning the word “wretched” in Romans 7:24. The greek word is ταλαιπωρος (tah-lay-POH-ross). It is a compound word from:
ταλαντον (tal-an-ton) – a balance with weights. (The word “talent” is a unit of weight)
and
πειρα (peer-a) – a test having the idea of poking or piercing. (Like poking a steak on the grill to see if it’s done)
literally, “weight-tested”. Figuratively, the idea is a feeling of the weight (or burden) of a trial or being pierced through with trials.

One of the best explanations for sanctification I have seen yet was from, believe it or not, JC Ryle in his book, Holiness. He says that you cannot have one without the other but they are separate things. He gets into the subject very deeply. I highly recommend the book even though there is much I disagree with him on. I think he gets the Justification/Sanctification issue right.
Here is a hint on sanctification: One should be able to trust a Christian. (wink)
