It is obvious Mohler has a huge disconnect on this very serious topic. We are talking about children here. What’s alarming is that he doesn’t seem to care about his conflicting behavior. Many prominent & popular leaders in Mohler’s circle also have the same sort of conflicting behavior on this. It seems to boil down to an old boy network for him and many in the Calvinist sector. Par for the theology. You know, sanctification (what happens after we are born again) does not involve wisdom, right behavior or effort. What matters to these leaders? What are they consistent about? Church membership, attendance, follow without questioning, your tithe, do what you’re told, etc. Just keep your eyes on the cross… so you won’t know what’s going on around you or what the head honchos are up to! They may refer to themselves as the husband of only one wife (what a joke, that used to go without mentioning), but are they truly qualified? Ask yourself, when you look at this conflicting behavior, do people REALLY matter to them? How many of them quote 1Timothy 3:8 when referring to their qualifications? Specifically, the part about NOT being double-tongued.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
When was the last time you heard that verse in a Calvinist church and felt free to do it, even if it brought about differing views or questions? What you may have heard instead is this Bible verse, before or after the leader was “rightly dividing the word of truth” for you. We all need to pay more attention to actions, not words. We must all be Bereans.
Well, there are some Calvinists who are troubled by the fruit from Piper, Mahaney, Driscoll, etc. but won’t admit there’s a behavioral connection to their doctrine. However, Wade Burleson AGREES there is a connection! Wade seems like a kind, compassionate guy. He seems to act with good judgement in love. He does rightly call out some of the big leaders in the Calvinist sector, so he gets applause for that. It appears he has a working conscience which opposes his Calvinistic beliefs and directs his behavior. That may be the difference between him and some of his peers. Wade is not a consistent Calvinist. I pray he’ll have a lightbulb moment, based on his own observations, to change his beliefs so that they line up with his current actions. Usually, as I stated above, behavior follows doctrine.
Wade also makes the EXACT same point as the Paul of this blog makes, maybe unknowingly, that Calvinism is BAD theology. http://www.wadeburleson.org/search?updated-max=2013-05-23T08:58:00-05:00&max-results=5
Wade’s May 21st post, “When Love Trumps Theology: The Moore Tornado”, calls out Piper and his tweet right after the OK tornado. Pipers tweet: “Your sons and daughters were eating and a great wind struck the house, and it fell upon them, and they were dead. Job 1:19”. Wade seems disgusted by Piper’s callousness and plain lack of love, which is so glaringly obvious it will blind you. The blinding, glaring, loveless rays all point back to Piper’s glorious Calvinistic belief system! LOL Maybe I should write a book about it. Anyway, Piper is just being a CONSISTENT Calvinist. Of course, if we look at Calvin himself, we see a man devoid of love. Why would we expect any better of Piper and his Calvinist peers and peeps?
Don’t miss this. The title of Wade’s post is Wade’s OWN admission that Calvinists must reject their theology in order to love. That’s apparently what he does. He disconnects from his theology in order to behave rightly. This should be another HUGE indication that something is very wrong with Calvinism. Biblical theology and love walk together, hand in hand, they are never either/or. If theology and love need to be separated, you don’t have to be a nuclear scientist to immediately know the theology is BAD & will produce bad fruit. Calvinism does not originate from the Bible. The foundations and teaching of the Bible NEVER need to be laid aside, in order to act compassionate and loving. But Calvinism MUST be ditched in order to love, feel, and have compassion for others. HELLO.
I’m not aware that anyone else has made this observation about Wade Burleson’s post and how he (unknowingly?) exposes the ugly reality of Calvinism and the behavior / actions / fruit that come with putting it into practice.
Wake up, SBC, wake up! Mohler is so arrogant and such a joke!

….funny though, I have noticed people who could never be convinced doctrinally are really bothered by them standing behind Mahaney.
