my intial thought when I saw this was, “ok,
Forgive me if I am wrong but that redemptive interpretation just does not look right. The way I understand what you are saying is this:
When I read the bible and read the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, I am to chill out, just relax, take things easy because those commandments do not apply to me, but to Jesus and he has already fullfilled them. Example John 14 verse 21. Jesus clearly states that if we love him we will obey his commandments. In verse 23 He again says if we love him we will do what He says.
Now let me draw an example of what He COMMANDS us to do: Luke chapter 6 vs 31: we are commanded to do unto others as we would like them to do unto us. In verse 35 Our Lord Jesus tells us to Love our enemies.
My understanding of redemptive interpretation would then mean that I should not concern myself about fulfilling these because it would come naturally!
This is where I have a problem because my first instinct when faced with my enemies is to do unto them as they do unto me!!!
But because I love God and want to please Him with my life, I remember His command and ask for His help in behaving unto my enemies as the Lord has commanded.
Having said this, I imagine your answer would then be that I am not truly walking in the the Lord hence the “natural flow” is not manifested in me!
That leaves me a christian between a rock and a hard place. Damned if I do, and damned if I don’t.
I would like clarity on this issue with real life examples because right now this (redemptive interpretation) is not looking like what I am reading in my bible and if we disagree on it , that is ok.
