I can do NOTHING pertaining to my salvation. NOTHING!! It is entirely wholly and completely by God’s own grace and the Sovereign work of the Holy Spirit in me by the revelation of Jesus Christ. My sanctification is JUST THE SAME. I can DO NOTHING in and of myself to “grow as a Christian” or “become more sanctified”!! If I pray, did I pray of “my own volition”?? My OWN strength and power and might?? NO!! I can do NOTHING in and of myself. Rather, if I pray, it is God Himself who by grace touched my heart and moved me to pray. If I read the Bible, did I MYSELF purpose to read the Bible in independence from God?? NEVER!! Rather, God Himself moved me to read my Bible by His own grace and His own Spirit working in me.
God’s Sovereignty never changes. God saved me in His Sovereignty. God sanctifies me in His Sovereignty. I can do all things THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENS ME. Therefore, anything I do that is related to sanctification — I have not done but Christ has done in me by strengthening me.
I could just puke every time someone tries to break submission to God our Father and the truth of the Kingdom that I can do absolutely nothing apart from Him — and all that I do in Him He Himself has initiated in me and I am moved of Him to do. Those who are lead by the Spirit are the sons of God. I don’t LEAD in this dance. I didn’t LEAD in my salvation — nor do I LEAD in my sanctification.
But I KNOW in Whom I have believed — and I KNOW that even as He foreknew me, predestined me, justified me — so too shall He sanctify and glorify me.
TO GOD THE THE GLORY!! Anything less is the flesh rising up to try to lead — and call it sin. God help us. (I cannot HANDLE this HERESY — this STRAYING FROM THE PATH OF WHAT JOHN CALVIN RIGHTLY TAUGHT ABOUT THE SOVEREIGNTY OF GOD IN ALL MATTERS PERTAINING TO DOCTRINE AND LIFE — THEN CALLING IT “NEW CALVINISM!!”)
I tell you, these people do not want to meet me in person. Because I will REBUKE WITH ALL AUTHORITY. Calvinism is sound in absolute statement of the 100% Sovereignty of God in justification, sanctification and even unto glorification. It’s the TAKING OF JOHN CALVIN’s NAME to preach contrary to what he taught about the Sovereign work of God in us — I can’t tolerate that they took his name and tried to co-opt it to things he knew better than to teach.
Rant off. (I may be too impassioned to hear more of this “New Calvinism”. It makes me mad to use John Calvin’s name when he was ONE OF THE GREATEST TEACHERS IN THE HISTORY OF THE CHURCH — AND PROBABLY WAS THE GREATEST!!!)
