Paul's Passing Thoughts 
You are right, Paul. The church is not the body of Christ . . . it cannot be the body of Christ. In many Deformed/Calvinist circles, they believe (because they have the great gnosis and are simple followers of fashion), that Christians are now the church AND the New Israel (the Jewish nation). Hence, you don’t go to church, you are not a Christian . . . I heard with my own ears, over and over.
The body of Christ comprises those who have been saved (past tense), been given the Holy Spirit (once) and who are now living out their lives in love; living out the law in peace without condemnation, waiting for the Lord’s return. We may be Chinese, Korean, Australian, Eskimo, but it’s by the unified spirit, which we received at conversion (a one-time event, past tense) that we are together the body of Christ in this world. We are God’s family; yeah, even literal family.
And, dear me, force a cactus down my throat. . . .we are also not Christ’s “bride.” You have covered that blasphemous, basically sexually sick idea already.
It may take a while, but some people are waking up to the truth. As Susan (the commenter) has said, “Communities of convenience – that is what I call the church! Nothing more and nothing less. I could join the garden club and it would be the same effect.”
