How Much Will Men Pay For Their Salvation?
Northside Christian School, a “ministry” of Calvary Bible Church in Colulmbus, OH – a church of which I am a former member – is about to embark on another “building project”: a new elementary building to replace the existing dilapidated one. How long do you think it will be before they remove my comment?

You betcha! Especially since they lied to everyone about why we left. It’s too bad we don’t get a refund for all the money we invested there over the years. I should have at least gotten to take the gym bleacher with me that I helped “sponsor” during the first building project. Maybe a plank from the wood floor. Or a chip of paint. LOL

The thing I saw from the very beginning; numbers and buildings have always been the measure of a church’s success because that is how you measure the success of any institution.

So how old was the “old building”? Seems like you at least get your money’s worth in a medieval cathedral. You could probably do a study on loyalty to an institution and the quality of their buildings.

From a completely objective analysis, the elementary building they had should have been demolished a couple of decades ago. It was actually a set of modular trailers that had originally been used as a temporary structure for a school that had been wiped out in a tornado somewhere out in Indiana back in the late 70’s. The church was able to purchase those modular units after the other school no longer needed them and used it for their school for many years. They have sunk probably tens of thousands of dollars (if not HUNDREDS of thousands) into those modular units over the years trying to keep them functional ever since. So from a purely “business” standpoint, a new building was sorely needed…IF you accept the premise.
Yet that still doesn’t diminish the point. And I think it even goes further to make the case that church is big business. And as Paul so astutely observed, the church has ALWAYS measured success by numbers and buildings. And the similarity between Catholic structures and the statement made with Protestant “church” buildings isn’t lost on me. It is always, “Look at what we have!” which somehow conflates with “Look at how God has blessed us!”
