According to New Calvinists, You’re Not a New Creature—You’re Barabbas
New Calvinists have really good news for you; as a Christian, you are utterly wicked, unable to please God, totally depraved, and well, we are Barabbas because the New Calvinists say so. Apparently, that’s really good news. Because New Calvinists have to see the gospel in every verse of the Bible, the first video embellishes what the Bible conveys about Barabbas as stated in Naves Topical Bible: “A prisoner released by Pilate.” The video attempts to make its point with embellished information about what thoughts were going through Barabbas’ mind, how he was feeling, that he was scared, what the guards said to him, and what he supposedly knew about Christ and his followers, etc.
Question. Since the Holy Spirit was actually there, will He use such information to persuade if it isn’t true? I’m kinda thinkin’ He won’t.
The second video simply reminds us that we are Barabbas. It is said several different times by several different people in order to “speak life” into us.

Come on, Christians shouldn’t be saying “I am Barabbus.” I’m thinking the story of Barabbus is more about the rejection and injustice against Christ. Barabbus was a criminal who belonged to the world. The worldly Jews said, “release to us Barabbus,” and that’s where Barabbus went. Jesus commented that the world cannot receive the Holy Spirit because it neither sees Him or knows Him. Well, the world didn’t receive Jesus either, it didn’t recognized Him, and hated Him as well. Barabbus was chosen by the world because he belonged to the world and spoke from the viewpoint of the world. Christ was not from the world, didn’t belong to it, and therefore the world rejected. Christians are “from God”, “belong to God,” and hear what God says. If they hated Jesus, they’re going to hate us also.

Bill, The first video is the usual NC nuance–your not sure it doesn’t include Christians. However, the second is pretty plain. They are Barabbas, and by the looks of them–pretty darn happy about it!

Hey, has anybody out there ever heard of Saint Barabbus from church history? Maybe some Roman Catholic can answer that. I’ve never heard of Saint Barabbus, but then I don’t know everything.
Saint Barabbus? Saint Lucifer?….. probably not.
